Gander-Point

Over 16 weeks with a team of 13 other students, I designed and built a path, gathering/meditation space, and fishing pier. Gander Point sits along the bank of a lagoon on the western edge of City Park in New Orleans. We studied the landscape for inspiration and adjacencies and talked with Park visitors to inform program; the studio was led by faculty in the Albert & Tina Small Center for Collaborative Design, a design center of the Tulane School of Architecture that focuses on community engagement and public interest design.

considerations: definitions of natural space, long-term condition, sculpture in design

materials: corten steel, wood/timber, concrete, and gravel

Solar-Charging-Bench

Over the course of 2-weeks, along with five other public interest design fellows, I designed and built a prototype solar charging bench for a youth’s job organization in New Orleans. This prototype is one of three benches intended for use by bus riders and neighbors looking for a place to sit and charge their phone.

considerations: repeatable construction, seat ergonomics, protection from sun, material sustainability

materials: painted steel, wood, gravel, and oyster shells
